Directed by Alexandra Ciudin, A Home Past the Meadow is a post-war coming-of-age short film set in the rural Devon countryside of 1953. The story follows William, a determined orphan saving money in search of his missing parents, whose life changes after forming an unlikely connection with Richard, an elderly man living in isolation on the outskirts of the village.
As Director of Photography, Luana approached the film through a naturalistic and emotionally observant visual language inspired by the cinema of Terrence Malick. Shot on the ARRI Alexa Mini in anamorphic widescreen, the cinematography embraces soft natural light, handheld intimacy, and pastoral landscapes to reflect the emotional solitude and quiet tenderness shared between the two characters.
The visual approach focused on creating a nostalgic yet grounded portrait of post-war Britain, balancing expansive countryside compositions with intimate close-ups that emphasise memory, displacement, and human connection. Golden-hour exteriors, textured interiors, and restrained camera movement were used to echo William’s emotional journey through loss, hope, and belonging.
In post-war Britain, a determined orphan raising money to find his missing parents forms an unexpected bond with a reclusive elderly man living on the edge of a quiet Devon village.
