Two capitals, two insurrections, but two entirely different outcomes. In the wake of historic democratic crises—the January 6th Capitol attack in the United States and the January 8th riots in Brasília—this mini-documentary explores how Brazil and the U.S. responded to the rise of far-right authoritarianism.
While the U.S. legal system ultimately expanded presidential immunity, dropping charges against Donald Trump, Brazil’s Supreme Court and Superior Electoral Court (TSE) moved forcefully. Rooted in a constitution written after its 1964–1985 military dictatorship, Brazil's institutions successfully investigated and held its former leader accountable. The film covers the intense political maneuvering, the uncovering of an active military coup plot, and the historic September 2025 trial that sentenced Jair Bolsonaro to over 27 years in prison.
